From a Chemistry Student to a Global Tour Operator: The Inspiring Journey of Al Mamun
From carrying tourists’ luggage to leading one of the most trusted Turkey tour brands in South Asia, the story of Md Al Mamun, a Bangladeshi entrepreneur, is one of persistence, courage, and vision. In 2008, Mamun traveled from Bangladesh to Turkey to pursue his studies in Chemistry. He began his academic journey in Izmir, one of Turkey’s most scenic cities. During his third year, he moved to Istanbul, where a new chapter of his life quietly began.
While studying, Mamun worked part-time in tourism. His first job was as a trolley boy, carrying travelers’ luggage at hotels and airports. It was hard work, but he learned something more valuable than money how the tourism industry works from the ground up. “I saw the happiness of tourists visiting Turkey, and I dreamed that one day I would help people experience this country myself,” he recalls.
After completing his studies, Mamun decided to build a bridge between Bangladesh and Turkey’s tourism sectors. He founded a travel company to offer Turkish tour packages to Bangladeshi travelers and travel agents. But the journey was not easy.
> “For the first year, I visited many travel agencies in Bangladesh,” Mamun says. “Most of them didn’t trust me. I worked hard but couldn’t get results. Still, I didn’t stop.”
Everything changed when he heard about a travel fair in Dhaka. He took a bold step booked one stall to promote his company and its Turkey tours. To gain trust, he invited his Turkish business partner to join him at the fair. “When Bangladeshi people saw Turkish representatives at our stall, they became more interested,” Mamun says. “That travel fair became the turning point of my career.”
After the fair, Mamun and his partner spent a month visiting travel agency offices across Bangladesh. They explained their services in detail, built relationships, and slowly gained trust. Within months, several Bangladeshi agencies started to work with them. When his partner returned to Turkey, Mamun stayed in Bangladesh, believing strongly in the potential of the market. He worked tirelessly for the next two years, training his Bangladeshi friends and building a dedicated team. His persistence paid off many agents began to trust and collaborate with his company.
Today, his company has grown into a global network. In Bangladesh, he leads a 56-member team, supported by an 8-person operations team in Istanbul. The head office is located in Turkey, and a regional office operates in Gazipur, Bangladesh.
More than 150 Bangladeshi travel agencies now work with Mamun’s company in partnership all with full satisfaction. Beyond Bangladesh, travel agents from over 35 countries, including India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Vietnam, the UK, USA, Malta, South Africa, and the Philippines, send clients to Turkey through his B2B network.
Through digital marketing, social media promotion, and celebrity sponsorships, Mamun’s company has become one of the most recognized Turkey tour brands. To date, more than 80,000 tourists from around the world have visited Turkey through his company each receiving professional service and unforgettable memories.
“Our journey wasn’t easy,” Mamun reflects. “But every challenge made us stronger. We proved that trust, teamwork, and quality service can build global success.” As his company continues to grow, Mamun remains focused on a clear vision for the future: “My goal is to make my company the best tour operator in Turkey a brand that represents trust, excellence, and unforgettable travel experiences.” From a chemistry student to a global tourism leader, Md Al Mamun’s story stands as an inspiring example for young entrepreneurs showing that with honesty, dedication, and belief in one’s dream, anything is possible.
