Attack on a journalist for protesting

Terrorists have attacked HM Imran Hossain, general secretary of the Dhaka University Journalists’ Association, for protesting against the irregularities in the distribution of meat to the poor and helpless. The incident took place at Garapota village of Banshbari union under Maheshpur police station in Jhenaidah district on Saturday evening. The name of the accused member is Azizur Rahman. He is a member of Ward 3 of Banshbari Union Parishad. According to local sources, the villagers of Garapota in Banshbari Union deposited the share of the poor in a certain place after the sacrifice. Local member Azizur Rahman was responsible for distributing the meat.

At around 7 pm, the member did not distribute the 20 kg of meat given to the locals and kept it for himself. The member refers to the meat left as his remuneration. When HM Imran Hossain, a local resident and general secretary of the Dhaka University Journalists’ Association, protested the incident, the members also attacked with terrorists.

Imran’s father and younger brother, who were present at the scene, were attacked and injured. All the injured are undergoing treatment at the Upazila Health Complex.

Injured HM Imran Hossain said, “At the end of the sacrifice, all the poor in our village gather in a certain place.” They started distributing in the afternoon. At around 7 pm, it was seen that the member left 20 kg of meat for himself without distributing it to the poor. ‘Then when I asked them to distribute these again among the poor, the son of the Aziz member and his terrorists attacked me. My father and younger brother came forward and attacked them. Accused member Azizur Rahman said, “I did not commit any irregularity in the distribution of meat.” My son and I are all innocent. Rather, they have humiliated us.
